Ils conçoivent et mettent en œuvre des stratégies de défense afin de s’assurer du désintérêt économique de leurs prétendantes et petites amies. Une multiplicité de savoirs émanant de pairs, de migrants sénégalais, de séries télévisées, est mobilisée afin de déjouer les ambitions matérialistes qu’ils attribuent aux femmes, considérant leurs manœuvres comme portant atteinte à leurs prérogatives. Les espaces d’homosocialités masculines se présentent dans cet article comme des lieux d’apprentissage et de partage où ces savoirs circulent à différentes échelles et par des supports divers. |

| Summary, etc. | Frustrating “interested” flirt in Dakar: homosociality, masculinity and knowledge circulationThe speech of some men in Dakar highlights their difficulties dealing with the forms of transactional sexuality in which they are involved. These men design and carry out defence strategies to make sure their suitors and girlfriends do not have an economic interest in the relation. They consider that female manœuvres undermine their privileges, and use a wide scope of knowledge coming from peers, Senegalese migrants, and TV series to thwart the materialistic ambitions they attribute to women. The article shows that male homosocial spaces are places of learning and sharing, where this knowledge circulates at different scales and through various media. |
