| Summary, etc. | L’entrée des femmes dans la carrière diplomatique est un phénomène relativement récent dans l’histoire des relations internationales. Comme la plupart des pays européens, l’Espagne a témoigné de l’ouverture de la carrière diplomatique à la présence féminine au cours du xxe siècle. L’une des figures les plus emblématiques en ce sens a été Isabel de Palencia, journaliste et écrivaine nommée ambassadrice en Suède pendant la Guerre civile espagnole. Sa carrière prolifique, jusqu’alors méconnue même en Espagne, fait preuve des grandes évolutions que la République a apportées dans le domaine du droit des femmes. L’objectif de cet article est d’analyser son parcours, mettant en avant les éléments qui ont rendu possible à Isabel de Palencia d’avoir une vie professionnelle si peu usuelle pour les femmes de son époque et de sa classe sociale. |

| Summary, etc. | The entry of women into the diplomatic career is a relatively recent phenomenon in the history of International Relations. Like most European countries, Spain witnessed the opening up of the diplomatic career to the presence of women during the 20 th century. One of the most emblematic figures in this sense was Isabel de Palencia, a journalist and writer appointed ambassador to Sweden during the Spanish Civil War. Her prolific career, up to this day relatively unknown even in Spain, is proof of the great developments that the Republic brought about in the field of women’s rights. The aim of this article is to analyze her career, highlighting the elements that made it possible for Isabel de Palencia to have a professional life so unusual for women of her time and social class. |
