| Summary, etc. | Malgré des avancées notables dans les domaines de la législation et de l’éducation, le taux d’activité des femmes tunisiennes n’a évolué qu’à un rythme très lent au cours des trois dernières décennies, traduisant un accès difficile au marché de l’emploi. Les femmes actives sont également plus fortement et plus durablement touchées par le chômage et sont davantage concernées par l’emploi saisonnier et les bas salaires. Par ailleurs, les restructurations économiques et l’ouverture des marchés affectent plus particulièrement les secteurs où se concentre l’emploi des femmes. Les dynamiques en cours mettent en évidence l’extrême vulnérabilité de l’emploi des femmes aux chocs économiques liés à la libéralisation, ainsi qu’une fragilisation des positions acquises dans le secteur des services publics. Face à l’afflux massif des femmes sur le marché de travail, les politiques publiques se révèlent peu à même de contribuer à leur meilleure insertion à la vie économique. |

| Summary, etc. | Processes of economic liberalization and dynamics of women’s employment in Tunisia In spite of the noticeable progress made in the legislation and in education, growth in the level of activity of Tunisian women has been only slow over the past three decades, a rate indicative of the difficulty of gaining access to the jobs market. Women in activity are also affected by unemployment more severely and for longer. They are more likely to have recourse to seasonal jobs and to be on low-paid work. Moreover, economic restructuring and the opening-up of markets hit particularly hard the sectors that most frequently employ women. The current trends highlight the extreme vulnerability of women’s employment to economic disturbances linked to free-market trends, and also an increasing precariousness of the posts obtained in the public services. Faced with the massive influx of women on the employment market, public policies are shown to be scarcely adequate for improving their rate of integration into the country’s economic life. |
