| Summary, etc. | La notion de « continuum modernisateur » structure le récit des changements survenus en agriculture depuis le XVIIe siècle dans les pays fondateur de l’Union et justifie aujourd’hui l’évolution assignée aux agricultures des nouveaux pays membres. Une des lectures de cette réalité présente l’agriculture polonaise comme la persistance d’une paysannerie pré ou proto-industrielle. Des observations de terrain en agronomie et en sociologie procurent une perspective plus insolite : nous proposons l’image de la chimère, assemblage inédit mais organisé et doté d’une trajectoire autonome d’éléments issus ici de la paysannerie pré-moderne et de la révolution de la moto-mécanisation-chimisation. La politique des structures bâtie pour la Pologne, qui reproduit dans ses grandes lignes la politique modernisatrice des années 60 conduite en France et dans l’Europe des six, trouve en partie sa source dans l’inquiétude suscitée par l’étrangeté de l’agriculture polonaise, et par le besoin de la rétablir dans une trajectoire évolutive balisée. |

| Summary, etc. | The Polish family-based farming, a structural chimera disconcerting for Europe’s “Centre” The notion of a “modernizing continuum” provides the framework for the narrative that recounts the changes in agriculture that have occurred in the founder-member states of the European Union since the XVIIth Century. Today it is the justification for the development required of farmers of the new member states. One of the interpretations of this reality presents Polish agriculture as the persistent embodiment of a pre- or proto-industrial peasant farming. Field observations on aspects of the agronomy and sociology came up with a more unusual viewpoint. The Author puts forward the image of the chimera, an unusual but organized combination doted with an autonomous path of aspects stemming from the pre-modern small-scale farming tradition and from the revolution of motorized, mechanized and chemically based systems. The policy for structures built for Poland, which reproduces in its main features the modernizing policy of the 1960s implemented in France and Europe of the Six, originates partly from the disquiet aroused by the strangeness of Polish agriculture and partly from the need to reset it on a well marked out path of development. |
