| Summary, etc. | Cet article entend questionner les discours sur l’« authenticité identitaire » et les enjeux qui leur sont sous-jacents à travers l’analyse de la construction de la musique « rom » comme objet patrimonial. Dans une agglomération française, un orchestre réunissant des migrants roms bulgares a été mis en place par deux acteurs de la société civile. Les membres de l’orchestre étant présentés dans la presse comme des Roms vivant en squat et jouant une musique « traditionnelle des plus authentiques », il est intéressant d’analyser les discours sur ce dispositif en lien avec l’identité ethnique « rom ». Sont également interrogées les motivations des différents acteurs participant à cette construction d’objet culturel, en soulignant l’importance des contextes migratoire et sociopolitique et notamment la fortement présente « injonction à l’intégration ». Les effets de cette construction culturelle et les changements qu’elle entraîne pour les membres du groupe sont ensuite analysés. L’article montre in fine que la création de l’orchestre cristallise les ambiguïtés entre une assignation identitaire et les stratégies d’acteurs qui s’en saisissent à leur façon. |

| Summary, etc. | Creation of a Roma orchestra from a migrant squat and uses of “authentic” identityThis article looks into the discourse on “authentic” identity and its underlying issues through the analysis of “Roma” music set up as a heritage object. In a French city, two civil society members set up an orchestra gathering Bulgarian Roma migrants, and the media presented the orchestra members as Roma living in squats and playing a “most authentic traditional” music. The article analyses the speeches on this initiative in connection with the ethnic “Roma” identity, and questions the motivations of the various actors involved. It also highlights the importance of the migration and socio-political contexts, especially the strongly present injunction to integrate. The article examines the effects of this cultural construction, and the changes it entailed for the members of the music group. It shows that setting up the orchestra crystallises the ambiguity between identity assignation and what actors make of it. |
