| Summary, etc. | Certaines sources textuelles suggèrent que la législation réformatrice promulguée par la cour carolingienne a eu un impact significatif sur les communautés ecclésiastiques. L’harmonisation des règles monastiques et canoniales au concile d’Aix-la-Chapelle en est un exemple. Dans le présent article, je présente quatre techniques archéologiques susceptibles d’être utilisées pour examiner les pratiques alimentaires anciennes et éclairer ainsi un aspect important de la vie des membres de ces communautés. Ces méthodes peuvent également nous renseigner sur les potentiels changements et variations entre communautés pendant cette période critique de l’histoire du monachisme. L’abbaye de Lorsch constitue à ce titre un site idéal à partir duquel intégrer à l’avenir ces techniques à la recherche. |

| Summary, etc. | Textual evidence suggests that the reforming legislation promulgated by the Carolingian court had a significant impact on ecclesiastical communities. The standardisation of monastic and canonical rules at the Synods of Aachen, for example, marks one such moment. In this article, I present four archaeological techniques that can be used to examine the dietary practices of past populations, shedding light on an important aspect of the lives of members of these communities. These methods may provide insights into possible variations between communities and changes over time during this critical period in the history of monasticism. The Abbey of Lorsch is highlighted as an ideal site at which to incorporate these techniques in future research. |
