Summary, etc. Pour participer à la compétition économique mondiale et s’inscrire dans la société de la connaissance que promeut l’Union européenne, la France a mis en place d’importantes réformes dans les sphères de l’éducation, de la formation et du travail. Cet article s’intéresse à deux de ces programmes, qui bénéficient d’un consensus assez large : la professionnalisation systématique des formations et des diplômes comme réponse aux besoins de l’emploi et des individus ; la certification généralisée des compétences pour garantir l’employabilité et la mobilité des actifs. Fondé sur des travaux de recherche qui portent en même temps sur le système éducatif et sur les relations diplômes-emplois, il met en question les propositions ainsi établies et leur caractère d’inéluctabilité et montre les ressorts de l’appel à « l’individu » qui traverse ces réformes.

Summary, etc. Professionalization of diplomas and certification of all individuals : an indisputable French strategy ?To participate in world economic competition and join the knowledge-based society promoted by the European Union, France has implemented extensive reforms in the spheres of education, training and work. This article focuses on two of these programmes, which benefit from quite a large consensus : the systematic professionalization of training and qualifications as a response to employment needs and of individual people ; the generalized certification of skills to guarantee the employability and mobility of those concerned. It calls into question the proposals thus established and their unavoidable nature. Also shown is the impulse of the appeal to the individual which runs through the reforms, on the basis of research work investigating both the educational system and the relations between qualifications and jobs.
