| Summary, etc. | “The happy uncertainty in the face of radical certainty” is a reflection on doubt and certainty in neurosis and psychosis. This text examines how these structures influence the perception of reality and the relationship with the Other through fantasy. In neurosis, uncertainty about being, gender, and identity predominates, creating an incessant quest for answers; whereas psychosis is characterized by a radical certainty, often expressed through delusion. This certainty, though built upon an initial enigma, becomes unshakeable.Faced with anxiety, which is the “beyond doubt” of threatening realities, the neurotic often opts for a “happy uncertainty” in response to the dreadful certainty.The text also highlights how the Other of discourse provides a bed of certainties to which the subject can cling, illustrating, for example, the hypnotic effect of collective discourses, as was visible during the Covid-19 pandemic. It concludes by discussing how, in the face of a collective danger, such as the imminence of war, the neurotic logic of “happy uncertainty” may prevail over the psychotic certainty, often limited to an individual. |
