| Summary, etc. | À propos du cas de Henriette D. Les femmes et l'enfermement psychiatrique dans la France du XXe siècle. Née en 1887 et internée en 1925, Henriette D., dont nous avons pu consulter le dossier médical, a séjourné à l’hôpital psychiatrique du Vinatier (Lyon/Bron) jusqu’à sa mort en 1999. Soit pendant près de trois-quarts de siècle. Quelles sont les causes de son internement ? Pourquoi a-t-elle été maintenue si longtemps à l’asile, y compris dans une période (à partir des années 1960-1970) où la désinstitutionalisation et le « maintien dans la communauté » sont devenus les maîtres mots de la prise en charge des malades mentaux ? Formulées à partir d’un itinéraire de patient, ces interrogations conduisent à poser la question du genre à l’hôpital psychiatrique au XXe siècle. Et donc à poser en d’autres termes la question des rapports que la société entretient avec la folie. |

| Summary, etc. | The case of Henriette D. Women and psychiatric imprisonment in XXth-century France. Born in 1887, Henriette D. was interned in 1925 in the psychiatric asylum of the Vinatier in Lyon/Bron where she remained almost three quarters of a century until her death in 1999. What were the reasons for her committal ? Why was she kept in the asylum for such a long time, including the period in the 1960s and 1970s when desinstitutionalization and "maintaining in the community" had become keywords in the care of the mentally ill ? Drawing on her medical records, this article uses her itinerary to discuss gender in the twentieth-century psychiatric hospital and to reassess through this lens the nature of the relationship between society and mental illness. |
