| Summary, etc. | Face au vertige actuel d’une sortie de la civilisation du livre, il faut rappeler que la fin du xixe et le début du xxe siècle fut déjà une période de dépassement du livre, en théorie et en pratique, en Amérique ou en Europe. Cet article propose une lecture renouvelée des idées d’un des pionniers de ce mouvement : Paul Otlet, figure clé dont les travaux, inventions et projets visaient à promouvoir ce qu’il nommait « les substituts du livre » (la revue, la fiche, les télécommunications, etc.), conceptualisés grâce à la notion de biblion. Malgré son succès modeste, cette posture théorique forte mérite d’être réhabilitée par les SIC. Par ailleurs, Otlet a proposé des « solutions » pratiques et audacieuses qui, aux yeux de certains, anticiperaient Internet. Ce qui exige de nous une réflexion sur ce qui, dans l’exercice même de la prospective, peut caractériser le geste de l’anticipation. |

| Summary, etc. | Today, we often believe that we are the first to come out of the civilization of the book. But the late nineteenth and early twentieth century has already been a time out period of the book, both in theory and practice, whether in the US or Europe. This article reviews one of the pioneers of this movement, Paul Otlet, whose works, inventions and projects specifically aimed at promoting what he called “the substitutes of book”, as diverse as the magazine, the index card, television, telecommunications etc. P. Otlet theorized his approach using the concept of “biblion”. He also proposed practices “solutions” or imagined bold projects that would anticipate to some internet. This paper proposes a new reading of his work. |

| Summary, etc. | Ante el vértigo actual de nuestra eventual salida de la civilización del libro, cabe recordar que a finales del siglo XIX y comienzos del XX se dio un período de superación del libro, desde la teoría y la práctica, en Estados Unidos y Europa. El presente artículo propone una lectura renovada de uno de los pioneros de ese movimiento: Paul Otlet, figura clave cuyos trabajos, inventos y proyectos buscaban promover lo que él llamaba “sustitutos del libro” (la revista, la ficha, las telecomunicaciones, etc), conceptualizados gracias a la noción de biblion. A pesar de su éxito modesto, se analiza dicha postura teórica. Otlet propuso “soluciones” prácticas y audaces que, para algunos, se adelantaban a Internet. Esto exige de nuestra parte una reflexión sobre aquello que – en el ejercicio mismo de la prospectiva – puede caracterizar el gesto de la anticipación. |
