Summary, etc. | Résumé Dès la naissance du Cinématographe le nuage a posé un souci logistique mais aussi esthétique aux cinéastes : comment le contrôler afin de le faire participer à l’histoire et à l’esthétique finale du plan ? Comment ajouter des nuages absents du tournage, comment ôter des nuages trop présents, et avec quels moyens obtenir le nuage parfaitement adapté aux souhaits du cinéaste, tant dans la forme, la texture, que dans son déplacement ? Tout au long de l’histoire du cinéma, plusieurs techniques de trucages ont été utilisées pour permettre un contrôle sans cesse accru de la place du nuage dans l’image. Cet article se penche sur quatre formes de nuages truqués (les nuages composité, peint, liquide et numérique) et les effets spéciaux particuliers que chaque technique regroupe. Il analyse ces différentes façons de créer des nuages à volonté, et leur enjeu commun : maîtriser, au moins dans les films, le temps qu’il fait. |

Summary, etc. | Since the cinematograph was born, reproducing clouds has constantly caused filmmakers’ logistical but also aesthetic concern: how to control this cloud in order to have it participate in the story, and in the aesthetics of the view? How to add clouds absent from the set, how to remove clouds too present, and with what means can a cloud be perfectly adapted to filmmaker’s wish, both in form, texture, and the way it moves? Throughout the history of cinema, different techniques of tricks have been used to monitor clouds in the image more and more strictly. This article focuses in particular on four forms of faked clouds (the composite, painted, liquid, and digital cloud) and the particular special effects that each technique conflates. It analyzes these different ways of creating clouds at will, and their common stake: to have control, at least in the films, of the weather. |

Summary, etc. | Resumen Desde el nacimiento del cine, las nubes han planteado problemas logísticos y también estéticos a los directores: ¿cómo controlar las nubes para integrarlas en la historia y la estética final del plano? ¿Cómo añadir las nubes que faltan en el rodaje, o suprimirlas cuando las hay en demasía? ¿Qué medios emplear para obtener la nube ideal que responda, en cuanto a forma, textura y movimiento, a los deseos del director? A lo largo de la historia del cine se han utilizado distintas técnicas de efectos especiales para controlar cada vez mejor el lugar de las nubes en la imagen. Este artículo se centra especialmente en cuatro formas de nubes falsas (nubes compuestas, pintadas, líquidas y digitales) y los efectos particulares que cada técnica conlleva. Se analizan las diferentes formas de crear nubes a voluntad, y el reto que esto plantea: controlar el clima, al menos en las películas. |
