Summary, etc. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | Untreatable ecstasy The focus here is what psychoanalysis as a discipline can bring to the apprehension of the somatic moment, in the light of unconscious conflict. In other words, what the medico-biological point of view is obliged to circumvent : the underlying unconscious operation. In order to grasp this trace of ‘untreatable ecstasy’, a metapsychology of the body is needed, in its libidinal, narcissistic, egoic dimensions, as well as in the disintrication of urges, between Eros and Thanatos. This contribution, based on the debate set out in the Lessons in Psychoanalysis on body and symptom, illustrates this with reference to the phenomenon of vertigo. A clinical study of vertigo, supported by metapsychological interpretation, makes it possible to see the construction of the subjective meaning, dialectically linked with the biological description of the process. This moment of ‘dizziness’/confusion of the ego and the body, in its network of urges, allows the expression of the displacement of the subject with relation to the object of the fantasy. The fading of the body then illustrates a temporary disintrication of urges. |
