| Summary, etc. | La question du père est abordée à partir d’un travail de terrain effectué dans une société matrilinéaire en République démocratique du Congo, la société yans. C’est par la voie de rituels que sont indiqués et transmis les repères identificatoires qui définissent le champ symbolique dans lequel la personne doit pouvoir s’inscrire. Ils mettent en scène trois grandes figures : Les oncles maternels, le père et le père du père ou plus généralement les générations alternées. Les rituels considérés sont ceux qui marquent l’entrée dans le monde et ceux qui entourent les funérailles. Ils font ressortir à la fois les positions différentielles de ces trois figures de référence et certaines lignes de conflit. Les systèmes d’interprétation mobilisés en cas de mort ou de maladie suggèrent une « bourse des valeurs imaginaires » qui contraste avec ce qu’indiquent les discours officiels. Deux lignes d’identification ressortent de ces analyses : l’une suit la voie du matrilignage et implique la dimension relationnelle de la personne, culturellement valorisée ; l’autre se déploie en ligne paternelle et ouvre un espace de jeu dans un système normatif relativement contraignant. L’auteur discute de l’intérêt d’un tel détour culturel pour approcher ce qu’il en est de la question du père dans le monde contemporain. |

| Summary, etc. | The question of the father is approached through fieldwork in a matrilineal society in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, that of the Yans people. Rituals indicate and transmit identification markers that define the symbolic field into which the person must fit. They feature three major figures: Maternal uncles, the father, and the father’s father or more generally alternate generations. This paper focuses on rituals that mark the entry into the world and those associated with burials. They bring to the forefront the different positions of the three reference figures as well as some lines of conflict. Interpretation systems mobilized in the case of illness or death indicate “imaginary connotations” that contrast with official discourses. Two main identification lines stand out among these various elements: one follows the matrilineal line and is related to the relational or collective dimension of the person; the other follows the paternal line and opens up a space for play in what is otherwise a relatively restrictive normative system. The author discusses the value of such a cultural detour with regard to approaching the question of the father in the modern world. |
