| Summary, etc. | La pensée conciliariste, qui avait semblé se pétrifier dans la France du xvie siècle, trouva une nouvelle vigueur à l’aube du xviie siècle grâce aux efforts d’Edmond Richer, le syndic de la Faculté de théologie de Paris de 1608 à 1612. Celui-ci assurait ne rien faire d’autre que de remettre en valeur l’ancienne doctrine de l’université de Paris. Il défendait la réputation de Gerson, injustement attaqué par le cardinal Bellarmin. Le théologien de Sorbonne André Duval affirmait au contraire que Richer trahissait l’École de Paris. L’examen des textes issus de cette polémique montre que, dans l’ensemble, Richer suivait Gerson mais qu’il durcissait ses positions et celles de ses successeurs en leur donnant une cohérence et une homogénéité qu’elles n’avaient pas. L’affaire constituait un enjeu important pour le magistère de la Sorbonne. |

| Summary, etc. | Conciliarist thought, which had seemed to freeze in time in sixteenth-century France, found renewed strength at the dawn of the seventeenth century thanks to the efforts of Edmond Richer, the syndic of the Paris Faculty of Theology from 1608 to 1612. Richer claimed to merely be restoring the old doctrine of the University of Paris. He defended the reputation of Gerson, who was unfairly attacked by Cardinal Bellarmine. Sorbonne theologian André Duval assured, on the contrary, that Richer was betraying the School of Paris. An examination of the documents born of this controversy shows that, by and large, Richer followed Gerson but that he solidified his positions and those of his successors, giving them a coherence and a homogeneity that they did not have. This episode had profound consequences on the magisterium of the Sorbonne. |
