| Summary, etc. | Au début du xvii e siècle, le chanoine quimpérois Jean Moreau compose le récit d’une révolte survenue en basse Bretagne en 1490. Sa démarche érudite s’appuie sur des sources textuelles et orales. Il nous donne accès aux modalités de l’invention de traditions qui rejouent d’ailleurs ultérieurement. Mais ce récit, à la croisée des chemins mémoriels, a une fonction avant tout idéologique et non ethnographique. Moreau y dénonce les effets toujours désastreux d’une irruption collective des ruraux dans le cours de l’histoire. Sa prise de position exprime une vraie haine sociale et caricature les formes rurales de politisation pour leur dénier toute légitimité. |

| Summary, etc. | Molding the Memory of a Revolt in the Seventeenth Century: Canon Moreau and the 1490 Uprising in Lower Brittany At the beginning of the seventeenth century, Jean Moreau, a canon from Quimper, wrote down the story of a revolt that had occurred in Lower Brittany in 1490. His erudite approach relies on written and oral sources. He gives us access to the means by which traditions are created, which come into play again later on. But this story, combining several different ways of remembering, functions in a way that is above all else ideological rather than ethnographic. Moreau denounces the still-disastrous effects of a collective incursion of rural people into history. His position demonstrates real social hatred and caricatures rural forms of politicization in order to completely deny their legitimacy. |
