| Summary, etc. | Cette étude a pour objet les traductions d’ouvrages traitant de l’histoire de la philologie ou de la « grammatologie » grecque et latine (γραμματολογία, études d’histoire littéraire). Cette discipline constituait un chapitre fondamental du cours intitulé « Encyclopédie et méthodologie de la philologie », que la nouvelle école scientifique de l’ Altertumswissenschaft avait consacré dans les universités allemandes. Au départ, les professeurs grecs utilisaient pour leur enseignement les notes des cours qu’ils avaient suivis pendant leurs études en Allemagne. De plus, le manque de manuels de cours originaux était compensé par les traductions d’ouvrages étrangers, dont les rédacteurs étaient surtout des professeurs de philologie du second degré. Ces traductions, outre les objectifs d’enseignement qu’elles servaient dans le second degré et à l’université, apportaient certes à leurs auteurs un complément de revenu, mais elles subvenaient aussi à un autre besoin des Grecs : celui de consigner la « glorieuse » histoire des lettres grecques à une période cruciale pour la mise en valeur de leur identité nationale. |

| Summary, etc. | This essay presents the Greek translations of ancient Greek and Latin Literature during the 19th century. The history of ancient Greek and Latin literature was a basic chapter of the course “Encyclopedia and Methodology of Philology”, which had been established in German universities within the then modern scientific school of Altertumswissenschaft. The professors initially used their notes from the lectures they had attended in Germany. The lack of original textbooks was filled by translations, the authors of which were mainly teachers in secondary education. These translations, in addition to their teaching purposes at the university and in the secondary education, also brought an extra income to the authors, and served another need of the Greeks: they recorded the “glorious” history of Greek Literature at a crucial time for the designation of the national identity. |
