| Summary, etc. | RésuméLa question de savoir si la mondialisation est source de progrès pour l’humanité tout entière ou si elle creuse l’écart entre dominants et dominés est objet de controverse. Cependant, la « majorité silencieuse » pourrait ne pas avoir une opinion précise sur la question, alors que les citoyens des pays les plus pauvres pourraient nourrir les plus fortes attentes par rapport aux bénéfices que pourrait leur procurer la mondialisation.Dans un questionnaire sur les représentations sociales de la mondialisation, administré à 503 étudiants de cinq pays, nous avons repéré l’existence de trois positions envers la mondialisation : l’opposition, l’indifférence et la sympathie. La fréquence de ces positions varie selon les pays, mais ne peut qu’imparfaitement être expliquée par leur niveau de développement. Une attitude favorable et une absence de préoccupation sont les meilleurs prédicteurs de la positivité des mots associés à la mondialisation. |

| Summary, etc. | Whether globalization is source of progress for humanity as a whole or whether it increases the gap between dominants and dominated is object of controversy. However, the « silent majority » might not have a clear opinion about the issue, whereas the citizens of the poorest nations might hold the highest expectations in relation to the benefits that globalization might offer them.In a questionnaire on the social representations of globalization, completed by 503 students from five countries, we captured three positions toward globalization : opposition, indifference and support. The frequency of these positions varies according to the countries but might be explained only imperfectly by their level of development. A favourable attitude and a lack of preoccupation are the best predictors of the positivity of the words associated to globalization. |
