| Summary, etc. | Résumé Le Costa Rica a réalisé, il y a plus de vingt ans, une réforme exemplaire du code de procédure pénale. Elle a permis de rompre avec un système au caractère traditionnellement inquisitoire et a donné naissance à une procédure essentiellement accusatoire : la suppression du juge d'instruction, la division de la procédure en trois étapes, le renforcement du principe d'oralité, ou encore la valorisation de la preuve testimoniale en sont les piliers fondamentaux. |

| Summary, etc. | More than 20 years ago, Costa Rica carried out an exemplary reform of its Criminal Procedure Code. It broke with a system that was traditionally inquisitorial in nature, and gave birth to an essentially adversarial procedure. The fundamental pillars of the reform consisted in abolishing the investigating judge, dividing the procedure into three stages, reinforcing the principle of oral proceedings and emphasising the weight of proof by testimony. |
