| Summary, etc. | Si les surveillants généraux pouvaient avoir une fonction éducative, ils étaient surtout en charge de la discipline des établissements scolaires. Lorsque la figure du Conseiller Principal d’Éducation (CPE) supplanta la figure du « surgé » dans les années 1970, elle fut progressivement associée à la question de la « vie scolaire ». En se focalisant sur les processus de normes, qu’il s’agisse de normation ou de normalisation, l’objectif de cette contribution est de réfléchir à la notion de vie scolaire, aux enjeux de l’École actuelle, et d’esquisser les grandes questions de fond en jeu au niveau de la professionnalité du CPE. Le quotidien réel des CPE est parfois très éloigné de certaines considérations idéalistes de la vie scolaire. Recourir à l’histoire et la philosophie peut contribuer à penser ce que devrait être la vie scolaire effective et ainsi nourrir les réflexions au sujet de la formation universitaire et professionnelle des CPE. |

| Summary, etc. | Inasmuch as a “ surveillant général” or head prefect can be said to have had an educational function, s/he was mainly in charge of a school’s discipline. When the figure of the Conseiller Principal d’Éducation (CPE) eliminated that of the “s urgé” in the 70s, it became increasingly associated with the issue of “v ie scolaire” or, literally, life at school. In focusing on the processes involved in the establishment of norms, this paper aims at reflecting on the concept of vie scolaire, on the main challenges facing contemporary schools, and on sketching out the main issues at stake for the profession of CPE. Their every day professional life is often very far from the idealisations formulated within the concept of “ vie scolaire”. Recourse to history and philosophy can contribute to defining what “ vie scolaire” should actually mean in practice and thus give food for thought regarding the academic and professional training of CPEs. |
