Summary, etc. | En 1996, le Conseil national des programmes, sous la présidence de Luc Ferry, se propose de mettre en œuvre la proposition 51 du Nouveau contrat pour l’école : publier un manuel de référence qui soit une mise en œuvre du socle commun de connaissances. L’article montre que cette volonté se heurte à de nombreuses difficultés : à qui ce manuel est-il destiné ? Qui va le rédiger ? S’agit-il d’un manuel ou d’un rapport ? Celui-ci fixerait ainsi les lignes directrices permettant de rédiger un manuel du socle commun des connaissances. Des projets ont été rédigés pour un manuel en deux volumes, l’un consacré aux sciences, l’autre aux humanités. En définitive, ce manuel ne vit pas le jour. Pour autant, le travail n’a pas été vain puisqu’au projet initial a été substitué la réalisation d’un cahier d’exigences à destination des collégiens. C’est en quelque sorte la première mise en œuvre du socle commun. |

Summary, etc. | In 1996, the Conseil national des programmes, whose president was Luc Ferry, gave itself the goal of enacting Proposition 51 of the Nouveau contrat pour l’école (a New Deal with our schools): to publish a textbook exemplifying the requirements of the common set of core competencies. This paper shows that this project encountered numerous obstacles: for whom was the textbook being produced? Who would write it? Was it a textbook or a report? A report would produce guidance for the writing of a textbook for a common set of core knowledge. Projects were written planning for a two volumes textbook, one for the sciences and the other for the humanities. In the end, the textbook was never produced. Nonetheless the work was not in vain since it led to the publishing of a cahier d’exigences, or notes on the requirements expected from a middle school student. This notebook is as it were the first enactment of the common set of core competencies. |
