520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | One woman's fight for justice, from Nuremberg to ArrasAline Chalufour (1899-1989) was one of the most unconventional women to join the judiciary in the post-war period. A lawyer with a PhD in law, a specialist in international public law and speaker of multiple languages, she represented the Gaullist information networks in North America during the Second World War. After the Liberation, she followed François de Menthon into the Ministry of Justice, and was a member of the French team at the Nuremberg trial of the Nazi dignitaries. In 1949, this committed social Catholic and feminist activist was appointed as a judge at a small court in northern France. There she found herself in a hostile, conservative environment, where she was accused of "damaging the prestige of the court". Aline Chalufour was a "very distinguished, highly educated woman" who was confronted with a male judiciary from another era. |
