520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | This article discusses a recent French film "Je verrai toujours vos visages" directed by Jeanne Herry (2023), which presents two experiences of restorative justice in France: a group therapy session between perpetrators and victims of violence and a meeting between a young girl and her brother who has been judged for incest committed on her. It analyses the collision between the different perceptions of violence of those who commit it and those who suffer it, the role of timescale in restorative justice and the relative antagonism between state and societal forms of justice. These encounters allow the aggressor to be seen as a human being, give perspective to the punishment they are undergoing and can mitigate victims' sense of injustice; in short they give meaning back to people's life courses. |
