| Summary, etc. | The Commission for Recognition and Redress: an experiment in restorative justiceFollowing a report published by the Independent Commission on Sexual Abuse in the Church (CIASE) in October 2021, revealing a large number of victims in France since 1950 and the systemic nature of this abuse, two commissions were established by the Church of France: the Commission for Recognition and Redress (Commission reconnaissance et réparation – CRR) and the Independent National Commission for Recognition and Redress (Instance nationale indépendante de reconnaissance et de réparation – INIRR). These commissions have been tasked with listening to victims, and then recognising and providing redress for the wrongs done to these people, most of whom can no longer take legal action. They are experimenting with a new form of justice inspired by “restorative justice”, which could serve as an example in meeting the need for justice expressed by many victims of abuse committed outside the Church. |

| Summary, etc. | À la suite du rapport publié en octobre 2021 de la commission indépendante sur les abus sexuels dans l'Église (CIASE) dévoilant l'ampleur du nombre de victimes en France depuis 1950 et le caractère systémique des abus, deux commissions ont été créées par l'Église de France, la Commission « reconnaissance et réparation » (CRR) et l'Instance nationale indépendante de reconnaissance et de réparation (INIRR). Elles ont reçu pour mission d'écouter, de reconnaître et de réparer les victimes qui, pour la plupart d'entre elles, ne peuvent plus agir en justice. Elles expérimentent ainsi une nouvelle forme de justice inspirée de la justice restaurative qui pourrait constituer un exemple pour répondre au besoin de justice qu'expriment de nombreuses victimes d'abus commis hors de l'Église. |
