Summary, etc. | La pandémie de Covid-19 a favorisé le recours des entreprises britanniques à la pratique du licenciement suivi d’une proposition de réembauche immédiate à des conditions inférieures. Les syndicats protestent, alertent l’opinion publique et font pression pour obtenir une intervention du gouvernement. Si le chantage à l’emploi est souvent efficace, quelques grands conflits ont démontré, au moins localement, des capacités de mobilisations parfois partiellement victorieuses. Il semble difficile toutefois d’espérer une protection efficace sans une modification de la législation. |

Summary, etc. | The Covid-19 pandemic has seen British businesses increasingly resorting to the practice of firing followed immediately by making a job offer on less favourable terms. Unions are protesting, raising public awareness and pressurising the government to intervene. While industrial blackmail is often effective, a few major disputes have demonstrated, at least at a local level, mobilisation capabilities which have sometimes proved partly successful. It does however seem that, in the absence of legislative amendments, effective protection may be too much to hope for. |
