Summary, etc. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | The Nazi period remains an unresolved enigma that still darkly fascinates contemporary culture. The author puts forward the hypothesis that this enigma’s persistence, and its lasting damage, derive from sociological and philosophical thought’s insistence on construing Nazism under the Hobbesian metaphor of the Leviathan. He proposes to take up the question of Nazism again from the perspective of Behemoth. Antonym of Leviathan. To do so, he suggests the need to return to Freud and psychoanalysis, as signposts for a possible new thinking in politics, in order to scrutinise Nazi destructiveness. He also proposes that homologies between Nazism and the underworld and the varieties of mafia be probed, from the figure of the « hero worship of violence » that they share. And together with this, he posits an « economic » model : the chimera, likely to capture the heterotopic and heterochronic character of its criminal construct. |
