520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | Discourses on the sexual use of psychoactive substance reveal not only the weight of the dominant social rules guiding sexual conduct but also the ideological norms that reign within a particular subculture. The article focuses on substance use associated with anal intercourse between gay men, drawing on 50 open-ended and semi-structured in-depth interviews with gay self-identified psychoactive substance users as well as key informants. The interviews were conducted for an ethnographic research project: Homosexualité masculine et usage de substances psychoactives en contextes festifs gay. The analysis shows how the loosening of sexual inhibitions through substance use allows users to perform sexual fantasies or practices that defy social gender or sexual norms enabling them to achieve the sorts of sexual performance expected and valorized in this subculture. |
