Summary, etc. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | Our clinical experience with autistic children led us to consider photography as a possible tool for restoring the spatial and temporal foundations of autistic children who have major sensory disorders that make them unable to face the world and maintain their stance – used here phenomenologically – within it. The camera is a visual device that protects them from direct contact with the world, allowing them to access it at a distance. At the same time, the various technical elements of the camera bring more possibilities to their sight, extending and intensifying it, so that they get closer to things and touch them with their eyes. The camera soothes their sight while encouraging the use of foveal vision; initiating the act of looking helps build the reflective function. This use of the camera seems to restore the child’s stance and to engage their senses in perception and then comprehension. The observation of these three steps, which has led us to create a therapeutic process that uses photography and 3D objects, is presented here along with two clinical cases. |
