| Summary, etc. | L’analyse des récits hagiographiques modernes met en évidence, chez les franciscains particulièrement, un imaginaire du livre dans lequel celui-ci devient l’oracle censé faciliter les décisions importantes. Cet article se propose de replacer cet ensemble de textes hagiographiques modernes dans le contexte du XVIIe siècle, et de reconstituer leur filiation, et en particulier leur enracinement dans le XIIIe siècle, horizon fondateur du franciscanisme, et dans les premières Vies de saint François où des épisodes semblables sont rapportés. Il examine ensuite le sens allégorique, symbolique et théologique de telles pratiques que les contemporains jugent superstitieuses, au point que les hagiographies du XVIIIe siècle finiront par éliminer ces épisodes pour rationaliser la spiritualité censée servir de modèle dans ces livres édifiants. |

| Summary, etc. | The analysis of the modern hagiographic literature points to a book-related form of imagination in the franciscan family in which the book became an oracle which purpose was to make major decisions easier. The purpose of this paper is to put back this set of modern hagiographic texts in the context of the 17th century, to trace back their filiation—in particular their roots in the 13th C.— when franciscanism was born—and in Saint Francis’s first lives in which two such like episodes were reported. We shall also study the allegoric, symbolical and theological senses of such practices thought to be superstitious by today’s readers, to such an extent that the 18th C. hagiographies eventually discarded these episodes in order to rationalize the spirituality which initially was supposed to serve as a model in these edifying texts. |

| Summary, etc. | El análisis de los relatos hagiográficos modernos permite ubicar, dentro de la orden Franciscana, un imaginario del libro como oráculo cuyo propósito es ayudar en la toma de decisiones importantes. Este artículo busca situar dicho conjunto de textos hagiográficos modernos en el contexto del siglo XVII y encontrar sus raíces en el siglo XIII, cuando el Franciscanismo fue fundado y se publicaron las primeras Vidas de San Francisco en las que episodios similares fueron relatados. Se analiza además el sentido alegórico, simbólico y teológico de dichas prácticas que los contemporáneos juzgarán supersticiosas, hasta el punto de que en las hagiografías del siglo XVIII se supriman dichos episodios para racionalizar la espiritualidad que servía de modelo en aquellos libros edificantes. |
