Une exigence d’égale reconnaissance de chacun dans sa singularité et une exigence d’égalité de droits laisse entrevoir deux ordres d’exigence opposés et solidaires. La difficulté de penser cette antinomie apparente a fait fondre comme neige au soleil la possibilité de penser qu’être homme ou femme c’est être ce qui manque à l’autre, être dans la complémentarité. Comment s’appréhende-t-on, dès lors, comme sujet sexué ? Faut-il renoncer au « sexe » au profit du « genre » ? Que devient alors l’identité sexuée ? C’est l’objet du présent article. |

Simultaneously demanding equal rights and the recognition of each person’s singularity discloses two opposite yet interlinked exigencies. The challenge involved in thinking through this apparent antinomy dissolves the possibility of considering that being a man or a woman means being complementary to the other and being what is missing from the other. How do we then apprehend ourselves as sexual agents ? Do we have to eschew “sex” in favor of “gender” ? What becomes then of our sexual identity ? This is the topic of this article. |
