| Summary, etc. | Le vieillissement chez l’homme peut se manifester par ce que l’on appelle andropause, terme impropre qui est une hypo-androgénie (baisse des hormones mâles) qui n’existe pas chez tous les hommes et qui peut survenir à des âges très variables (cinquante, soixante, soixante-dix ans ou plus) quand elle existe. Les symptômes (asthénie, troubles du sommeil, troubles anxiodépressifs, troubles urinaires et difficultés sexuelles...) n’ont rien de spécifique. C’est le bilan hormonal avec le dosage de la testostérone biodisponible (Hormone mâle active) qui nous permettra de suspecter, voire d’affirmer ce diagnostic et de le traiter médicalement si cela est possible. Il ne faut pas ignorer cependant que certains hommes ont une interrogation sur le sens à donner « encore » à leur vie, avec parfois la déception d’avoir à renoncer aux idéaux de leur jeunesse. D’autres, ou les mêmes recherchent plutôt une relance du sexuel.Dès lors, dans une anticipation galopante, l’homme vieillissant peut être amené à thésauriser son avoir plutôt qu’à consolider son être, et faire de son apparence, de son corps, le seul référent de lui-même. |

| Summary, etc. | Ageing in men can manifest itself in what is called the andropause, a misnomer in fact, for hypo-androgeny (drop in the production of male hormones) which does not affect all men and which, when it does occur, can appear at widely varying ages (50,60,70 or over). The symptoms (lack of energy, insomnia, anxiety and depression, urinary problems and sexual difficulties) are not at all specific. A hormone test to determine the level of available testosterone (the active male hormone) in the body makes it possible to suspect or even confirm the diagnosis and treat it medically if possible. However, it must not be forgotten that some men have questions about the meaning they can « still » give to their lives, sometimes disappointed to have to give up certain youthful ideals. These same men, or others, look rather for a way to boost their sex lives. So, in an anticipatory rush, the ageing man may be led to save what he has rather than to consolidate his being, taking as sole self-reference his appearance and his body. |
