520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | This article deals with the time of arrival in Rome of Hedykos, son of Euodos, the “ambassador of the Phanagorians from the Bosporos”, who was buried in the columbarium Vigna Codini III, in the same niche as the Bosporan Aspourgos, son of Biomasos, a translator from the Sarmatian language (CIL VI 2, 5207 = IG XIV 1636 = IGR 261 = IGUR II 567). Even though the construction of the columbarium obviously dates back to the end of Augustus’ reign and Tiberius’ principate (ca 10-37 AD), or more broadly to the Julio-Claudian period, the author proposes arguments in favor of the theory that Hedykos visited Rome between 63 and ca 50 BC, when Phanagoria was an independent polis. The mission of Hedykos could be connected with the gaining of independence by the Phanagorians with support of the Romans in 63 BC after the death of Mithridates VI or the threat from his son Pharnakes II, who conquered Phanagoria about ten years later. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. |

Summary, etc. |
