520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc.
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. For French Reformed pastors of the seventeenth century, conversions to Catholicism, threatening the minority creed with disappearance, were stigmatized as “revolts of faith.” The Discours contre les revoltez, published anonymously in 1661, belongs to this context of crisis and new pressures on the R.P.R. To avert the danger of mass abjurations and “nicodemism” as soon as possible, the secret author of the Discours, Pastor David Derodon, made use of an abridged version of a polemical 1629 treatise by Josué de La Place. The 1661 Discours would go on to be reprinted repeatedly in this abridged form at other moments of crisis, during the years of the Désert, and then in Amsterdam after the Revocation, and even served as an inspiration to Claude Brousson.
