520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. The scientific term “colostrum” refers to the milk secreted by a mother before or after childbirth. It precedes “transitional” and “mature” milk. In Cambodia, mothers used to throw colostrum away and give water while waiting for transitional milk. Since the 1990s, with the medicalisation of maternal and child health entailed by international aid and economic liberalisation, the knowledge and practice of breastfeeding have changed. This article, based on an ethnographic study conducted in a maternity ward in Phnom Penh between September and December 2014, describes knowledge about colostrum and the resulting practices. Knowledge includes biomedical, social and family facts, experience and commercial communications. Hierarchisation and hybridisation contribute to new practices based on the multiple knowledge that circulate.
