Summary, etc. | The three types of oblivion detected by Marc Ferro are echoed today, twenty-three years later and in a context characterized by the proliferation of commemorative practices, by three forms of revival of past events: laws about remembrance, movements aiming to raise awareness about hidden and generally blameworthy historical periods, and finally works of art focusing on exhibiting the void and describing the quest for memory. These resurgences of the past demonstrate that there is no such thing as oblivion. They raise the question of the relationship between official history and individual memory. |
