520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc.
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. This collective project seeks a detailed reconstruction the little known development of Barbery Abbey. Over the long term, the history of the Savinian Abbey of Barbery, affiliated with Citeaux in 1147, evolved considerably. On site, this transfer is evident with the convent being displaced over several hundred meters. The succession of Abbots was made possible by confronting several manuscripts, notably those of Jean Hermant and Basile Jacquin which owed much to the work of the 17th century monk, Bernard Dauphin. Along with the abbey’s archives, these sources and the archaeological remains enable a trustworthy reconstruction of the building process. All told, they offer an overview of how the monks laid out their environment during the 13th century. Despite its almost complete destruction, the cloister was reconstituted. This study also encompasses a ceramics shop and a shelter, one of the few preserved from Cistercian Normandy.
