| Summary, etc. | Le 25 avril 1974, la Révolution des Œillets met fin à une dictature particulièrement hostile au théâtre. Elle est annoncée dès 1968 par le « printemps de Caetano », une période marquée par un climat d’ouverture et un renouveau culturel. Au plus fort du mouvement révolutionnaire (entre le 25 avril 1974 et le 25 novembre 1975), le retour de la liberté d’expression et les espoirs de changement se traduisent tout particulièrement dans l’activité théâtrale, par la multiplication de compagnies et de spectacles fortement politisés. La stabilisation de la démocratie, entre 1976 et 1978, coïncide avec une restriction des subventions qui contraint les acteurs de la vie théâtrale portugaise à redéfinir leur place dans la société. |

| Summary, etc. | On April 25, 1974, the Révolution des OEillets ended a dictatorship markedly hostile to the theater. It had been announced since 1968 by the « printemps de Caetano », a period characterized by a more receptive climate and a cultural revival. At the most intense revolutionary moment, (between April 25, 1974 and November 25, 1975), the return of the freedom of expression and hopes of change manifested themselves in particular by theatrical activity, by an increase of theater companies and highly politicized productions. The stabilization of democracy between 1976 and 1978 coincided with a restriction of subsidies that compelled actors of the Portuguese theater to redefine their place in society |
