Summary, etc. La relation des familles aux institutions éducatives s’établit sous la forme d’une confrontation qui oscille selon leur statut social entre la collaboration et l’hostilité. Les classes moyennes parviennent à maintenir des rapports à peu près satisfaisants avec les diverses instances éducatives au nom d’un consensus éducatif. Les milieux les plus défavorisés apparaissent en revanche les plus démunis face à la multiplication des instances qui prennent en charge leurs difficultés. À cause de la multiplication des rapports aux professionnels de l’éducation auxquels ils ont affaire (enseignants, éducateurs, assistantes sociales), ils se trouvent dans une situation de dépendance qui les conduit à s’estimer de plus en plus incompétents. Comment ces professionnels peu-vent-ils parvenir à traiter sur un pied d’égalité des parents qu’ils jugent parfois incompétents et responsables des difficultés de leurs enfants ? Et comment des partenaires si différents peuvent-ils trouver entre eux un terrain d’entente éducatif ?

Summary, etc. Families and institutions The relation of families to educational institutions lays according to their social status on an oscillating confrontation between collaboration and hostility. Thanks to an educational consensus middle classes manage to keep up almost satisfying relations with the various educational structures. On the other hand, lower classes seem more deprived in front of the increase of structures taking charge of their difficulties. Owing to the increase of relations with educational workers they use to meet (teachers, educators, social welfare workers) they stay in a dependant situation which leads them to think they are inefficient. How can these workers think they are really equal to parents they sometimes consider inefficient and responsible for their children’s difficulties ? And how can so different partners find an educational agreement ?
