Summary, etc. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | On the possible invention of a space for intimacy in the psychotic individual ; the example of musicThe authors of this article set out to define the notion of intimacy on the basis of its constituent absence in psychotic individuals. The patient suffering from hallucinations is invaded by the voice of the Other without being able to defend himself. Having been unable to form an intrapsychic deaf point, he finds it impossible to acces the intimate psychical space where the Other could be kept at a distance. From an analysis of settings bringing music into play, they set out to clarify in what way music, used in a transferential relationship, can be valuable in offering shelter and in providing a degree of intimacy when the latter is absent. Music then is understood as a “voice trap” ( piège à voix ) which makes it possible to offer the individual a space in which, from being a “hearer” of voices, he can have the experience of being heard by the music. It is in this reversal that a certain intimacy may be “fabricated”, a sort of shelter, allowing the individual to experience another type of relation with the Other. |
