520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | During his seminar on “Identification” Lacan discusses the relationship between the big Other and the little other, which he seeks to define based on a long citation from Maurice Blanchot’s novel Thomas l’Obscur. This work of fiction allows him to say that the word itself is the object as little other, the word with which the subject identifies himself to the point of becoming it in the narrative. We will see that the emergence of the subject, in this case Thomas himself, the emergence of his “I” in the story, can happen only in a transitory way and entails the loss of the object, here represented by Anne’s death. We can read between the lines of this fiction by Blanchot an anticipation of these dramas of “forclusion” or of projective identification. |
