Summary, etc. |

Summary, etc. | A therapist listening, to who people tells and who himself tells. How does the narrativist therapist work?In the sunshine of the Roucas Blanc area in Marseille, coming straight from a novel of Marcel Pagnol, the elders are telling stories of Provence to the younger ones. I probably had my vocation to become a narrative therapist from this point. Provence is a region where the tradition is oral, it is when the form of saying becomes important. When you tell something to someone, then to someone else, then to someone else again exaggerating certain things, selecting others to produce an effect, you do oral literature. This orality use is the soul of Provence, the narrative art is a dramatic art : it involves the voice, the body, the personality of the story-teller and also the audience who waits, joins, censors or remembers and in which somebody may tell a story again. The Provençal identity is part of this rhetorical and conversational art ! This is how I naturally came to work in my clinical practice with narrative therapies. |
