520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | « Latinus, the terminus transpertusus and a boundary found in Saint-Martin-du-Var (Alpes-Maritimes) » A Roman boundary stone has recently been identified on the hills of the left bank of the lower river Var (France). This can be recognized on the ground of its shape and characteristics as one described about 400 AD by Latinus under the name terminus transpertusus. Its situation also fits with Latinus’ description. Although its date and scope remain unclear, it is certain that this was part of a system (an other boundary stone has been seen in the surrounding area). This discovery confirms the existence of a variety of types of boundary-stones with codified meanings under the Roman empire. |
