Traditionnellement, l’historiographie les retient comme legati iuridici, mais pour l’auteur il s’agit d’une dénomination trompeuse car ce titre n’apparaît pas avant Domitien. L’auteur propose de distinguer les iuridici stricto sensu qui remplaçaient les gouverneurs provinciaux uniquement dans les affaires juridictionnelles et les legati Augusti qui avaient des fonctions plus importantes comme les légats des proconsuls dont nous connaissons l’existence dès les débuts du Principat. En addendum, l’auteur propose de faire du praetor prouinciae L. Pison (Tacite, Annales, IV, 45) le gouverneur de l’Hispanie citérieure. |

| Summary, etc. | The Legates Subordinated to the Governors of Imperial Provinces during the Principate: Different Titles, Different Functions?The governors of some imperial provinces are known to have had subordinated legates during the Principate. The historiography traditionally considered all of them legati iuridici, but in my opinion this term is misleading and cannot be used before the reign of Domitian. In this paper I propose to differentiate between two types of these legates: the iuridici stricto sensu, who replaced the provincial governors only in jurisdictional affairs; and the legati Augusti, who had larger functions like the legates of proconsuls, and are attested since the beginnings of the Principate. In a final addendum I propose to consider the praetor prouinciae L. Piso (Tacitus, Annals, IV, 45) governor of Hispania Citerior. |

| Summary, etc. | Los gobernadores de algunas provincias imperiales tuvieron legados subordinados durante el Principado. Tradicionalmente, la historiografía ha considerado a todos ellos legati iuridici, pero en mi opinión este término es engañoso y no puede ser usado antes del principado de Domiciano. En este artículo propongo diferenciar dos tipos de legados: los iuridici stricto sensu, que sustituían a los gobernadores provinciales sólo en asuntos jurisdiccionales, y los legati Augusti, que tenían funciones más amplias, como los legados de los procónsules, y están atestiguados desde inicios del Principado. En un addendum final propongo considerar al praetor prouinciae L. Pisón ( Annales, IV, 45) como gobernador de Hispania Citerior. |
