| Summary, etc. | Cet article s’intéresse à l’évolution du regard porté sur les Détroits par les Anciens. Il semble qu’entre le IIe siècle et le début du IVe siècle les représentations de cette région changent peu à peu. Traditionnellement considérés comme une zone de rupture géographique entre deux continents, les Détroits sont perçus de plus en plus comme un lien qu’il faut protéger lors des guerres civiles. Les périodes de troubles entre le IIIe siècle et le début du IVe siècle semblent avoir joué un rôle déterminant dans cette construction mentale aboutissant à l’installation de résidences impériales. De périphériques, les Détroits sont pensés comme un centre, déterminant une modification des discours au IVe siècle. |

| Summary, etc. | Representations of the StraitsThis article discusses the evolution of the perception of the Straits in ancient times. It seems that between the second and the beginning of the fourth century, the representations of this region progressively changed. Traditionally seen as a fracture area between two continents, the Straits have been gradually perceived as a link that must be protected, especially during civil wars. The troubled times between the third and the beginning of the fourth century appear to have played a key role in this intellectual construction, which led to the installation of new sites of imperial residence. Formerly peripheral, the Straits were now conceived as central, which resulted in a different discourse in the fourth century. |
