Summary, etc. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | PARENT ’S BEREAVEMENT DURING CHILDHOOD AND ACCESSING FATHERHOOD. « ORPHAN LOOKING FOR FATHER MODEL » How to overrun mutual repercussions of one’s parent-figure’s bereavement during childhood on further building up psychic paternity is the question dealt with here by the authors who try, in a first part, to give some theoretical answer, underlining that fulfilling paternity requires accessing to the internalized objects by both identification to parent-imago and founded on parent-function representations, and discussing as a main point the destiny of the internal object when the real parent is deceased. They draw more particularly attention to the point that accessing fatherhood means renouncing to idealized parental objects, which is directly to be connected with the – at least at the beginning – well known idealization’s process of the defunct. Moreover, the authors point out that access to fatherhood and bereavement enter into synergy by both waking up castration anxiety and death angst. In a second part, authors develop Mark’s case, a man up to become a father for the first time while having bereft himself his own father during childhood. This clinical example illustrates some theoretical points, and opens to the important questions of ‘parentification’of the orphan boy, as well as to its impact on the further building up of fatherhood. |
