| Summary, etc. | Résumé : En Argentine, entre 1890 et 2003, un nombre conséquent de Provinces ont émis des monnaies complémentaires à la monnaie fédérale de cours légal sous forme de billets de petites dénominations. L’article décrit ce phénomène largement ignoré. Après avoir analysé les caractéristiques générales de ces monnaies fiscales complémentaires et les raisons du désintérêt des économistes et historiens à leur égard, on en décrit les quatre vagues d’émission. Enfin on présente la diversité des types d’instruments qui ont été expérimentés et les liens qui peuvent exister entre les formes de monnayage choisies et les succès ou échecs des dispositifs. |

| Summary, etc. | Abstract: In Argentina, between 1890 and 2003, many provincial governments issued, in the form of small denominations notes, fiscal currencies complementary to the legal tender federal currency. The article describes these monetary experiments largely forgotten by both economists and historians. After examining the general characteristics of the currencies issued and the reasons for this lack of interest, I differentiate between four historical waves of emission. I then tackle the issues of the diversity in time and space of the ways of issuing these paper monies as well as their technical forms, and I examine the possible impact of this institutional diversity on the success or failure of the experiments. |
