| Summary, etc. | L’image traditionnelle des femmes grecques, en particulier athéniennes, confinées dans le γυναικεῖον a été remise en question par la négation de l’existence d’un tel espace d’enfermement, ouvrant ainsi un débat sur le rôle et le statut social des femmes dans la Grèce antique. Notre article, à travers une revue documentaire et historiographique, vise à confirmer la réalité historique de l’enfermement féminin et, sur cette base, l’éventuelle nécessité d’un espace spécifique au sein de la maison dans lequel il pourrait se développer : le γυναικεῖον. |

| Summary, etc. | The traditional image of the Greek woman, especially the Athenian woman, as confined in the γυναικεῖον has recently been called into question. Some scholars have denied the existence of this space as one of confinement. The question of the γυναικεῖον is important, as it relates to the role and social status of women in Ancient Greece. This paper, through a review of documentary and historiographical sources, argues for the historical reality of female confinement and, based on it, the possible need for a specific space within the house where it could develop: the γυναικεῖον. |

| Summary, etc. | La imagen tradicional que presenta a la mujer griega, especialmente la ateniense, encerrada en el γυναικεῖον ha sido puesta en entredicho a través de la negación de la existencia de dicho espacio de reclusión, abriendo, de ese modo, un debate sobre el papel y la condición social de la mujer en la Antigua Grecia. Nuestra comunicación, mediante una revisión documental e historiográfica, pretende constatar la realidad histórica del confinamiento femenino y, a partir de ella, la posible necesidad de un espacio específico, dentro de la casa, en el que pudiese desarrollarse: el γυναικεῖον. |
