Summary, etc. Les personnes déficientes intellectuelles présentent souvent un langage défaillant ou largement déficitaire, ce qui plonge dans la perplexité lorsqu’il s’agit d’établir leur niveau d’intégration des connaissances ou leurs capacités à être ou à agir, notamment dans un domaine aussi délicat que celui de la sexualité. En s’appuyant sur les repères que donne la psycholinguistique et à partir d’analyses de situations, l’article montre comment certaines de ces personnes déficientes réussissent à élaborer leurs représentations et à étayer leur identité sexuée. Elles le font par le biais d’apprentissages implicites et grâce à leurs compétences pragmatiques. Pour atteindre cet objectif, elles ont à lutter contre les craintes restrictives de leur entourage qui amènent celui-ci à privilégier, quand il choisit d’en donner, les informations complexes et inaccessibles.

Summary, etc. WORDS TO LIVE BY ON USING VOCABULARY TO ACCESS AN INTELLECTUALLY DEFICIENT PERSON’S SEXUALITY People with an intellectual deficiency usually present a lack of language or a serious deficiency in that respect, which leave us in a state of perplexity when we are called on to evaluate their level of knowledge acquisition or their abilities to be or do, especially in a an area as sensitive as sexuality. Relying on the reference points furnished by psycholinguistics and from analysis of clinical situations, the article shows how some of these deficient people succeed in elaborating their representations and sustaining their sexual identity, essentially thanks to implicit learning and their pragmatic capabilities. In doing so they have to resist the restrictive fears harboured by those in their immediate social environment, whose members tend to proffer complex or even largely incomprehensible information, when they actually deign to do so.
