Lorsqu’un désaccord éclate entre les conjoints, devenant si intense qu’une dispute est sur le point de venir bousculer le paisible cours de l’interaction, l’idée d’y participer n’est pas toujours du goût de chacun d’entre eux. L’objectif d’esquiver la dispute peut alors devenir un idéal à atteindre à travers de nombreux procédés. À partir d’une vingtaine d’entretiens semi-directifs menés auprès de jeunes conjoints, nous montrerons que le jeu sur l’affectif, les divers types d’excuses, les proches peuvent constituer des tentatives d’esquive de la dispute conjugale. Mais qui dit tentative ne dit pas réussite… |

| Summary, etc. | How do spouses or partners attempt to avoid marital conflict ? What are the conditions and what is the level of success ? When a conflict breaks out between spouses, becoming so intense that a row is on the verge of upsetting the gentle course of interaction, the idea of getting involved is not always to the taste of either member of the couple. The goal of sidestepping the issue can then become an ideal to be achieved through a variety of stratagems. Working on the basis of a score of semi-directive interviews conducted with young couples, we show that by playing on the emotions and using various types of excuses, the protagonists can deploy strategies to avoid marital conflict. But their attempts are not always crowned with success… |
