| Summary, etc. | La naissance constitue pour toute famille un bouleversement identitaire. Dans ce contexte, le « devenir grand-parent » est encore peu étudié. Les auteurs ont mené plusieurs entretiens conjointement chez des parents et grands-parents dans une population tout-venant au Québec. Les résultats illustrent les enjeux identitaires qui surgissent autour de la naissance entre les parents et leurs propres parents. Les parents s’expriment sur l’attente quant au soutien que pourraient apporter ces derniers. Les grands-parents, qui semblent plutôt en attente de relations avec le bébé, passeraient par ce soutien pour trouver leur propre place dans l’économie familiale. Avec des différences selon les sexes, les grands-parents concourent ainsi à construire grâce à cet étayage un berceau psychique familial qui réunit dans un premier cercle les parents avec leur bébé. En périnatalité, cette « fonction » grand-parentale permettrait d’envisager la spécificité d’un second cercle autour du bébé, propre également aux interventions des professionnels. |

| Summary, etc. | A birth in any family represents a major identity-related upheaval. In this context, “becoming a grandparent” has not been widely studied. The authors conducted several interviews jointly with parents and their grandparents in an indiscriminate population in Quebec. The results illustrate the emotional issues that arise around birth between parents and their own parents. The parents speak out about the expectations of support from the latter. Meanwhile, the grandparents, who seem rather to be expectant of forging relations with the baby, afford that assistance to find their own place in the family economy. With differences according to sex, the grandparents thus contribute through that support to building what can be metaphorically represented as a psychic family cradle delimiting the inner circle of the parents with their infant. During the perinatal period, this grandparental “function” potentially opens out to a second circle around the baby with its own characteristics, providing a means of access for the interventions of professionals. |
