Summary, etc. En visant une modélisation conceptuelle, cet écrit théorique aborde la vulnérabilité du professionnel de la protection de l’enfance à travers le prisme de son éthique. Dans une dynamique socioculturelle parfois trouble, ce professionnel fait face à la vulnérabilité des familles mais aussi à la sienne propre. Nous soutenons qu’il est fragilisé par un contexte qui altère fortement le déploiement du triptyque qui forme la base de ses actions socio-psycho-éducatives – orientation scolaire spécialisée/soins psychiques/placement. Comment alors s’estimer soi-même comme personne et comme professionnel en évaluant ses actions à l’aune d’une visée éthique pour le moins contrariée par des normes porteuses de nouveaux idéaux ? L’auteur conclut l’article en soulignant le risque de culpabilité que le professionnel peut endosser, à tort. Il plaide enfin pour une éthique à la fois prescriptive, armée de concepts philosophiques, et réflexive, enrichie par les rugosités du terrain, afin d’aborder de front les nouveaux antagonismes qui s’emparent du champ de la protection de l’enfance.

Summary, etc. With a view to conceptual modelling, this theoretical paper addresses the vulnerability of child protection professionals through the prism of their ethics. In a sometimes troubled socio-cultural dynamic, these professionals have to deal with the vulnerability of families as well as their own frailties. We maintain that they are challenged by a context that greatly alters the deployment of the triptych forming the basis of their socio-psycho-educational actions, that is the combination of specialised educational guidance, psychological care and placement. How, then, are we to value ourselves as individuals and as professionals, when we assess our actions against the yardstick of an ethical vision that is, to say the least, undermined by emerging standards that bear with them new ideals? The author concludes the article by highlighting the risk of a sense of guilt that professionals may wrongly take upon themselves. Finally, he argues for an ethic that is both prescriptive, armed with philosophical concepts, and reflexive, enriched by the rough and tumble of work out in the field, in order to tackle head-on the new antagonisms that are taking hold in child protection.
